CURRENT PRACTICE
Roel Garcia joined the Houston office of Newton, Jones & Spaeth in 2011. As an associate, he has handled litigation across a variety of practice areas including: construction, personal injury, contract disputes, medical malpractice, deceptive trade practices, shareholders oppression, and homeowners association disputes. Within two years he has assisted in litigation on multiples cases from inception up and through trial, assisting lead counsel in winning verdicts for clients. Even more, he has been able to successfully negotiate settlements on behalf of his personal clients in various practice areas ranging from medical malpractice to Texas Deceptive Trade Practices claims.
PAST EXPERIENCE
Before joining Newton, Jones & Spaeth Roel was a legal intern at the Legal Aid Society – Manhattan Criminal Defense Division in New York City, NY. In that position he gained valuable trial experience by fighting on behalf of indigent clients. He has argued various motions before New York state court judges, assisted as second-chair in criminal felony trials, and argued bail applications at arraignments. His investigative work throughout the five boroughs which included daily interface with clients and families strengthened his dedication to providing exceptional legal representation and quality client service.
Additionally, as a undergraduate and law student Roel interned at the Law Office of Rogelio Garcia in Southeast Houston, TX. In that position he assisted in the defense of accused clients on criminal matters ranging from misdemeanors to felony charges. It was in this position that he developed a passion for providing legal representation to fellow Houstonians and to the citizens of Texas.

COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT
Upon graduation from Columbia University in 2003, Roel joined Academic Consulting Services in Dallas, TX. As the district supervisor for the Dallas area, he helped to implement the Academic Success Program in four inner-city high schools during its inaugural year. The program focused on assisting inner-city Texas students gain admission and scholarships to top colleges and universities around the country. Since being admitted to the state bar, Roel has remained passionate about social justice and educational opportunity. He has recently presented to high school youth at his alma mater Lutheran High North in Northwest Houston and to junior high students at Pasadena Junior High School in Pasadena, TX on topics ranging from college readiness to the legal profession.
